Education Worthy of Massachusetts Massachusetts has a constitutional responsibility to “cherish” public education. That promise must include every child, in every community, and especially students with disabilities and complex needs.As special education costs continue to rise, local schools and municipalities are being asked to carry increasing financial burdens while families often struggle to navigate an increasingly complex system.I believe Massachusetts should recommit itself to the principles that made our state a national leader in educational opportunity.My education platform includes:• Fully funding Special Education Circuit Breaker reimbursements so extraordinary student needs do not overwhelm local budgets.• Modernizing school funding formulas to reflect the real costs of today’s classrooms, including specialized staffing, therapies, transportation, and support services.• Strengthening state oversight and responsiveness so families receive timely answers and districts receive the guidance they need.• Supporting collaboration between families, educators, districts, and the Commonwealth to reduce conflict and improve outcomes.• Protecting educational equity so a student’s opportunities are never determined by their zip code or their community’s tax base.Massachusetts helped build the modern foundation of special education. We should lead once again by ensuring every student receives the support, dignity, and opportunity they deserve.Because educational opportunity should be a statewide promise, not a local luxury. Why Single-Payer Healthcare Is Massachusetts’ Strongest Economic StrategySingle-payer healthcare is not just a healthcare policy. It is an economic development strategy.Massachusetts businesses are carrying one of the largest hidden labor costs in the country: employer-sponsored health insurance. That cost suppresses wages, burdens small businesses, and makes it harder for families to stay here.A statewide Medicare-for-All system would decouple healthcare from employment and wages. Employers would no longer have to build health insurance premiums into every job offer, and workers would no longer have their healthcare tied to a specific employer.That changes everything.It makes Massachusetts a stronger employer magnet. Businesses could hire, grow, and compete without massive healthcare liabilities sitting on their balance sheets.It gives small businesses a lifeline. Local retailers, restaurants, trades, and service providers could finally compete with large corporations for workers because healthcare security would no longer depend on company size.It unlocks household income. Removing premiums, deductibles, and co-pays would put thousands of dollars back into family budgets at the exact moment housing, child care, food, and utilities are pushing people out of Massachusetts.This is wage decoupling.Healthcare costs have been absorbing money that should have gone into wages, savings, local spending, and business growth. Single-payer moves that cost out of the employer-worker relationship and creates a stable public framework instead.That stability gives Massachusetts the runway to solve the rest of the affordability crisis: universal child care, early education, and reasonably priced housing.When healthcare, child care, and housing are stabilized, businesses get what they actually need: a healthier workforce, predictable costs, stronger communities, and families who can afford to stay.That is the real pro-business strategy: lower structural costs, stronger wages, and a workforce rooted in Massachusetts.
